What to buy someone who says they want nothing

"Nothing" usually means "nothing generic". Here is where to look instead.

When someone says they want nothing, they are usually telling you they have enough stuff. Not that they do not want to be thought of.

Look at what they talk about, not what they own

The story they tell at every dinner. The hobby they keep almost starting. The person they miss. Good gifts often live in conversations, not shops.

Things that do not add clutter

  • An experience with the people they like most
  • Something consumable, chosen with a reason
  • A personal digital thing they can keep, share or replay
  • Your time, with an actual date attached

The test is simple. Could this gift be given to anyone else? If yes, keep looking.

Good gifts are hard.
